Ex-BBC producer and Bristol MP from 1951-83 Tony Benn opens the first in this annual series of NUJ and Arnolfini discussions reflecting critically on the making of the news. Benn argues that the growing power of the global media and the changing BBC are eroding the rights of journalists and the public as well as explaining how UK political parties manipulate the media and public perceptions.
